This book presents information on the .NET framework that is of specific interest to Internet and intranet developers, and is split into the following sections: Introducing ASP.NET, Core ASP.NET, ASP.NET and Data Access, Advanced Technologies, Advanced Web Forms, and Putting It All Together Each chapter tackles a specific area of ASP.NET development, first by giving a detailed overview, then presenting a series of code examples and walk-throughs that illustrate various applications of ASP.NET. From the Back Cover: Written for the experienced user, this book is the only one you will need to transition your skill set from ASP to ASP.NET. Author Scott Worley supplies you with many source code examples individually relating to every concept introduced within this book. In addition, Worley also provides a full ASP.NET-based online task management application used as the final case-study project in this book. About the Author: Scott Worley is a freelance IT consultant specializing in Microsoft-based technologies and SDLC project management. During the past 10 years, he has worked on many leading-edge development projects, utilizing the latest technologies. Customer Reviews A very usefull reference for the Intermediate developer, February 1, 2002 Reviewer: A reader from Maryland This book, is a very usefulll reference for the intermediate to advanced developer, its covers a myriad of topics, some which are not mentioned in other ASP.NET books, certainly not the ones I own, some of the best chapters in the book in my opinion were the following: - Web Services - XML and ASP.NET - Directory Services - Messeging Services - Custom Control Development - A very good, and direct chapter on ADO.NET and my personal favourite, Localizing ASP.NET Applications I am using this book in conjunction with Stephen Walthers ASP.NET Unleashed book, and find them both indespensible, where one book is weak the other is strong, yes there is some overlap, but seeing the same good from two obviously skilled writers and system engineers, lets the reader see more than one way to solve a common problem. I recommend both books whole heartedly! Great Book with great example, December 10, 2001 Reviewer: Henry Tam from Brossard, Quebec Canada I think the author, Scott Worley, did an excellent job to explain a lot of areas in the brand new platform with many useful code examples. Highly recommend for people who want to learn more about ASP.NET. I have been working with ASP.NET for a few months now. In the beginning, I try to find a book with some real juice on the topic. But I found most of them are very similar to the QuickStart examples that provided with the platform. So, I dig my head into the free example and the beta quality documentation instead. Then, I came across this book last week. After I flip through a few chapters in the bookstore, I decide too have this book in my programming collection. Although I already have a few months of experience on the platform, I am excited to learn that this book still able to offer me some new information and it help to clear up some other topics for me as well. Such as security, state and cache management etc. At the end of the book, Scott put together a massive example project (compare to others books) that recap all the topics and show how they work together. You can't find this in most of the books. Another great book by New Riders, March 20, 2002 Reviewer: Mark Evans This is one good book on ASP.NET, I brought this book after buying and being impressed by the other new riders ASP.NET publication Debugging ASP.NET. And I am glad to say, this is an action I definately do not regret. Great reference and intemediate guide to ASP.NET, March 18, 2002 Reviewer: Jody Forrester from Florida This book, is in my opinion is great, it has been a long while since I have read a book, and actually learned a lot more than I bargined for. For example, like most Classic ASP programmers, my security knowledge is passable, but after reading the security chapter in this book, I feel a lot more advanced in my knowledge, the same goes for the Globalization and Web Services chapters. I am very happy with my purchase, and highly reccommend this book to anyone who needs a great ASP.NET reference. |
