About the Author: Rick Leinecker is a veteran software developer and author with more than 15 years of experience. Among his current book titles are The Visual C++ 6 Bible, COM+ Unleashed, and Teach Yourself Visual J++ in 21 Days. He's written hundreds of magazine articles, and now writes for developer Web sites such as developer and UsingASP You might find some of his software, such as Perfect Checkmate and Bicycle Bridge, when you visit retail stores. He's written dozens of entertainment titles over the years, including Trump Castle and Miami Vice. He's held a number of lead positions in major companies, including Senior Software Engineer at MCI's digital imaging division and Senior Software Engineer at Landmark Communications. He now teaches full time at Rockingham Community College. When he's not writing books and software, Rick can be found participating in theater guild productions such as Bye Bye Birdie and Camelot. He also sings, plays the guitar and French horn, and writes music. Vincent Minden is a software consultant specializing in .NET technologies and Japanese language software. He recently returned to the United States from Japan, where he spent five years doing back-end programming for Internet and intranet sites. Vincent started programming in 1981 on a Commodore PET and has been involved with programming ever since. He holds a degree in electrical engineering from Walla Walla College.

Excellet book. This book starts with the basic fundamentals and works its way to advanced ASP.net development. Perfect for beginners AND experienced asp developers who want to migrate their web applications to ASP.net. It's clear and concise. This book thoroughly explains everything you need to start programming in ASP.net. Anyone can learn ASP.net with this book! I give "Using ASP.net" 5 stars.

Good Book To Have, March 13, 2002

I have known that the day would come that I would have to move from ASP to ASP.NET. This is the book I bought to answer my questions, and it has been great. Bear in mind that I'm an ASP developer already, but this book made it easy to get up to speed developing ASP.NET applications. There's a companion Web site...where all of the program examples can be tested and viewed. This really helped me work through the chapters as I could see the applications in real time.

This book outlines everything you are going to need when programing in ASP.NET. Unlike most technology books this one is very easy to read. The author made the entire text in a conversational tone. The book seems to 'speak' to you while at the same time taking you on an innovative tour of programing. The text is easy enough for even a child to understand but hits on all the major issues of ASP.NET.

As an author myself (Inside C#), I'm often asked about ASP.NET and what books to purchase. Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend Rick's Using ASP.NET book. Not only is it great for someone who's never used ASP.NET but it includes a very impressive array of demo applications that you can either use "out of the box" or customize for your own needs. These demos include very practical applications such as how to dynamically read Web pages and retrieve and process the data your application is interested in. Therefore, with this book you're actually getting more bang for the buck than with most. You're getting a full tutorial on how to program ASP.NET and you get lots of great plug-in code. Now that's a combination you can't beat!
