Customer Reviews Comprehensive coverage, January 31, 2002 Reviewer: SP Greening from NYC, New York The first few chapters teach you the basics, most of which I knew already, but it is the later chapters which are really great. The chapter on SOAP security (a subject about which I confess I knew very little) taught me everything I am ever likely to need or want to know about that subject. There's also loads of great examples to get you going. To sum up - it's great! Fantastic Book Made Infuriating, March 26, 2002 Reviewer: A reader from Tucson, AZ United States There is some outstanding content in this book: the Chapters on SOAP Techniques, SOAP Security and Transactions are the best I've ever read. So why two stars? First, the publishers have chosen to include only C# examples in the book (the VB.NET code is available as a download from the Wrox site). This seemed acceptable when I first bought the book, but I found that instead of the natural reading flow, I was stopping every few lines to go hunting through the download files to find the corresponding VB.NET examples. Given what Wrox charges for this book, they should have included VB.NET. Second, the downloads are poorly documented and have multiple errors, typos and problems. So what could have been a great learning experience became just another infuriating slog through a poorly edited product. If you're a C# developer it's probably a great read (perhaps the C# downloads are error-free), but for VB.NET developers I wouldn't recommend it. The best book, February 14, 2002 Reviewer: Reader from AZ, USA The best book that I've ever seen for Web Services. This book covers all about Web Services and the advanced topics such as Caching and Security are the highlight of this book. Highly recommended! Excellent Book on Web Services, February 14, 2002 Reviewer: A reader from Chocago, IL USA Best book on web services. It covers all I need to learn about Web services from the ground up. One of the best parts of the book is advanced topics such as Caching and Security. That where the book shines very much. |
